The complete IBO Player setup guide
IBO Player is the only application CanadTV supports, and it runs on very nearly every platform and operating system you might own. The interface is tidy, playback is smooth, and the essentials are all present. Here is how to get it working end to end.
Before you start
What IBO Player does well, and where it stops
IBO Player is built by a development group called IBODEV, and it is one product among several they publish. Its strength is reach: you can install it on Android phones and boxes, Fire TV sticks, Windows and macOS computers, and crucially on non-Android smart televisions from Samsung and LG, where the alternatives thin out badly.
It is honest to state the limits too. There is no recording function and no multi-screen view. It uses remote playlist activation, meaning you pair the device on a website rather than typing credentials with a remote control — slightly unusual at first, considerably faster once you have done it. On some platforms it carries a small one-time licence fee paid to its developer, not to CanadTV.
- Available on nearly every streaming platform you are likely to own
- The strongest option for Samsung and LG televisions
- No recording and no multi-screen playback
- Pairing happens on a website, not on the device
- A small one-time licence applies on some platforms
Have your welcome email open. Every step below needs three values from it: the server address including its port number, your username and your password. Copy them exactly — a trailing space is the single most common cause of a failed first login.
Prefer a guide written for one specific device? Pick yours: Android phone, Fire TV Stick, Samsung and LG TV, Windows PC or MAG and STB box.

Eight steps from download to first channel
Follow these in order on any platform. The wording of a button changes between devices, but the sequence does not.
-
Get the installer for your platform
Download the IBO Player package that matches your device from the official IBODEV site or from the download link in your CanadTV welcome email. Android and Fire TV take an APK, Windows takes a 64-bit installer for Windows 10 or later, macOS takes a disk image, and Samsung or LG televisions install straight from their own content store.
-
Allow the install and open the app
Because the file comes from outside the platform store, Android will warn you and Windows will show a SmartScreen notice. Choose Download Anyway, then More Info followed by Run Anyway on Windows, or Open Anyway under Privacy and Security on macOS. Finish the wizard and launch IBO Player once.
-
Read the device information screen
On first launch IBO Player shows an introductory page, then loads the dashboard. Open the profile icon and find the Device Info block in the top left. Write down the MAC address and the device key exactly as displayed; those two values are how the app is paired with a playlist.
-
Log in to the playlist manager
On a computer or phone browser, open the IBO Player website and choose Manage Playlist from the top menu. Enter the MAC address and device key you just noted and sign in. This is the remote activation model IBO Player uses instead of typing credentials on a television remote.
-
Add your CanadTV line
Choose Add XC Playlist and paste the three values from your CanadTV welcome email: server URL with its port, username and password. Give the playlist a name you will recognise. If you were issued a single long streaming line instead, use Add Playlist and paste the M3U string into that field.
-
Reload the app and check the grid
Back on your device, close IBO Player fully and open it again. The Live TV, Movies and Series tiles now carry your CanadTV content, and the electronic programme guide populates automatically. Nothing needs to be typed on the device itself.
-
Tidy the Live TV section
The default category order is rarely the one you want. Open Settings, then Manage Categories, and hide the language groups you will never watch. Long-press or hold OK on any channel to add it to Favourites so your regular channels sit at the top of the list.
-
Set parental control and playback preferences
Still in Settings, set a parental PIN if children use the television, pick your interface language, and choose the Live TV and VOD players. If a stream stutters on one player engine, switching engines in this menu resolves it more often than any other single fix.
When something will not play
Three checks solve the overwhelming majority of first-night problems, in this order.
- Re-check the three credentials. Retype rather than paste if the first attempt failed; a stray space at the end of a password is invisible and fatal.
- Switch the player engine. Settings, then Live TV Player or VOD Player. Some device and codec combinations simply prefer one engine over another.
- Clear the cache. Settings, then Clear Cache, then reopen the app. This rebuilds a stale category list without touching your playlist.
Still stuck after those? Send the channel name and the time it happened to the desk through the contact page — that detail lets us match it to an upstream feed rather than guessing.
Settings worth knowing
- Network — confirms the device actually holds a connection before you blame the stream.
- Parental control — a PIN that locks flagged categories out of the grid.
- Language — switches the interface, including French.
- Manage categories — hides the groups you never open, which is the single biggest usability win.
- Auto boot on start — opens IBO Player the moment the device powers up.
- Main screen background — cosmetic, but it makes a shared television feel less generic.
